Engaging Leaders: Establishing and Effectively Using a Stakeholder Committee

ABCD II states found that stakeholder participation helped improve the design of project models, encouraged stakeholders to add resources to the projects, and helped build stakeholder support for program expansion and policy improvement. The creation of a state public/private partnership that explicitly included pediatric clinician leadership was critical to success. Active partnerships with clinicians were critical to obtaining provider acceptance and support. Active partnerships among state agencies were also critical. State agencies were key players in promoting effective screening, including the Maternal and Child Health agency, the children’s mental health bureau and the lead agencies for Part C.

This section includes tools created to help identify and engage a wide range of stakeholders in state efforts to improve the healthy development of young children.
