Based on the successes of ABCD consortia, each state is now poised to develop and begin to implement a plan for spreading the innovations developed and tested in the demonstration sites statewide. Many have developed key partnerships that will continue beyond the project, including organizations such as provider organizations, state agencies, and other public/private partnerships to continue to train providers, advise Medicaid agencies on policy changes, and address perinatal depression as well developmental screening of children.
This section will provide resources to assist states in spreading the policies and practices that will move the use of standardized screening tools as part of well child care from a ‘best practice’ to a ‘standard of practice.’ It builds on the experience and expertise of the eight states that have participated in two state consortia, NASHP’s and Commonwealth’s experience in supporting those states’ efforts, national efforts that are sending complementary messages about developmental screening to stakeholders, and the important efforts of researchers and other experts to develop effective tools and resources for identifying children with or at risk for developmental delays and then meeting their needs.
