Kansas’ ABCD Screening Academy Project selected screening tools, improved EPSDT screening implementation and provider training, and built upon and coordinated with existing public and private partnerships.
Specifically, the ABCD Screening Academy project in Kansas improved developmental screening by:
Improving state policy to better support developmental screening by adopting the 30 month visit after it was announced an appropriate screening visit by Bright Futures and refurbishing their EPSDT Training Manual and preparing to put the training "on line."
Sustaining and spreading the use of standardized screening tools as part of well child care from a ‘best practice’ to a ‘standard of practice’ by partnering with the Kansas University School of Medicine on the implementation of the ASQ screening form and the use of The Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT) as a more regular portion of screening in primary care. Kansas’ ABCD Team also developed grant funding to purchase the ASQ tool kits and to enable the ABCD Team to grow beyond the original concept and work towards identification and enhancing pediatricians' and other primary care professionals’ ability to screen, diagnose, and treat children with mental health disorders.
